Archive for the ‘Buying a Car Online’ Category

The internet has revolutionized practically every market, but it’s taken a while for the car market to catch up. This is partly because it’s hard to ship cars, but it’s also because buying a car is something that is much more sensible to do in person. You want to be able to look closely at the car for any problems, and of course, you want to be able to take it for a test drive. When shopping for cars in online car auctions, you simply don’t get to do these things.

Advantages of online car auctions

However, even though you miss out on something when using online car auctions, there are also advantages. For example, you may be looking for a specific kind of car, and maybe no one in your area is selling one. Or maybe there are only a couple for sale, but they have more mileage than you would like, or there could be any number of other things wrong with them.

On the internet, things are different. Not only do you have thousands of cars to browse through, but you actually have certain other things working in your favor. For example, there are many sites that perform online car auctions, which makes it a very competitive field. Thus, these businesses can’t get away with being dishonest. If they do try to swindle somebody, that person will inevitably go online and raise a fuss. And no business in this day and age wants that.

Disadvantages of online car auctions

In addition to the impersonal quality of using online car auctions, there are a few other disadvantages. For one thing, you have to pay shipping costs, and cars aren’t cheap to ship. If you live in a major metropolitan area, you might get lucky and find a car in your area, or you can at least find one in your region. But if the perfect car for you is thousands of miles away, you’re going to end up paying a pretty penny to get it to you.

Also, whenever you use online car auctions, you can never be completely sure that everything is  on the up and up. There are some auction companies that have been caught putting in fake bids on their own cars in order to raise the prices. And of course, there’s always the risk that everything will not be as described. That’s why it’s important only to use reputable companies.
